Rawalpindi Plans New Parking Plazas in Major Commercial Areas

The Rawalpindi district administration has started planning new parking plazas in Raja Bazaar, Commercial Market and the Jinnah Park area to address parking and traffic congestion in the city’s busiest commercial locations.

Deputy Commissioner retired Capt. Nadeem Nasir directed assistant commissioners to identify suitable land and submit feasibility reports for the proposed parking facilities.

The directions were issued during a meeting of the District Development Committee, which reviewed ongoing and proposed development schemes across Rawalpindi.

Nasir also directed officials to identify land for a Sahulat Bazaar and a public park in Taxila and Wah.

During the meeting, he sought an immediate progress report on the Rawalpindi Mother and Child Hospital and ordered authorities to resolve the water supply problem at Rawat Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.

The Punjab Saaf Pani Authority was directed to map and geo-tag all functional and non-functional filtration plants in the district.

Officials were also asked to prepare reports on urban and rural sports grounds and explore opening improved school and college playgrounds to the public after school hours. Assistant commissioners were directed to identify land for at least one quality sports ground in every rural union council.

The Tourism Department was asked to submit a detailed report on the proposed Mahota Dam tourism project, while officials were directed to prepare cost estimates for the rehabilitation of Chakri Road.

Departments were also instructed to propose a permanent solution to the sewerage problem at Biscuit Factory Chowk.

The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company and District Council were directed to address sanitation and waste management problems in Union Councils 76 to 79 and proceed with the beautification of Rehmatabad Graveyard Road.

Nasir also ordered action on issues identified at Wah General Hospital and sought a plan to improve educational standards, teacher training and transport facilities for special education schools.

He said the district administration was committed to completing development projects across Rawalpindi on time.
