Lahore Hospital Performs First-Ever Robotic Surgery in Punjab

Shaikh Zayed Hospital Lahore has become the first public sector hospital in Punjab to successfully perform a Robotic Total Knee Arthroplasty, marking a major advancement in the use of modern medical technology in public healthcare.

The robotic knee replacement procedure was led by Prof. Dr. Wasif Ali Shah, Professor and Head of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, in collaboration with RECH International.

The milestone was achieved under the leadership of Shaikh Zayed Medical Complex Lahore Chairperson and Dean Prof. Dr. Ayesha Humayun and Executive Director Dr. M. Hatif Iqbal.

Several departments contributed to the successful procedure, including Prof. Dr. Mehmood and the Department of Anaesthesia, Prof. Dr. Shaukat and Dr. Mubashir from the Department of Radiology, the operating theater staff, and the entire Orthopaedic Surgery team.

Commenting on the achievement, Dr. Hatif Iqbal said that introducing advanced medical technologies in the public healthcare sector remains one of the institution’s top priorities.

The procedure represents an important step toward making advanced robotic surgical care available within Punjab’s public healthcare system.
