X Rebuilds Android App from Scratch for Faster and Smoother Experience

X has launched its rebuilt Android app after nearly a year of development.

The Elon Musk-owned platform said the new Android app has been rebuilt from the ground up to improve speed, reliability, loading, scrolling, notifications, and overall performance. Existing users can get the new version by updating the X app through the Google Play Store.

Built From Scratch

The Android rebuild follows months of work inside X.

Last year, X head of product Nikita Bier said the company was building an Android “dream team” to improve the app, which had fallen behind the iOS version. TechCrunch reported that the new release is the result of that year-long effort.

Bier described the rebuild as one of the largest engineering projects in X’s history. He said the app is now faster, smoother, and more reliable, and that the new foundation will allow X to build features more quickly.

Better Performance

The new app focuses on core performance improvements.

X said the rebuilt Android version should feel better across basic actions such as loading posts, scrolling through feeds, and receiving notifications. This matters because the Android app had faced complaints in the past, including problems loading X posts from shared links.

The update could also help X in global markets where Android is the dominant smartphone platform.

Some Features Missing

The new Android app is not fully finished yet.

Bier said X still needs to improve performance on older Android devices and add support for Spaces, the company’s live audio feature.

He also said more features are coming soon, including the new video editor, react-with-video, cashtags, and custom timelines.

Faster Feature Rollouts

The rebuild also fits into X’s broader product push.

The company has been rolling out several new features and standalone apps, including X Money and X Chat. The rebuilt Android app could help X bring new features to Android users more quickly instead of leaving them behind iOS.

For now, the main change is simple: Android users finally have a new X app built on a fresh foundation, with more features still on the way.
