The Punjab government has launched a free livestock distribution programme on the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to empower rural women economically. In the first phase, eligible women across 13 districts are receiving animals.
The scheme covers Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Layyah, Kot Addu, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Taunsa, Bahawalnagar, Khanewal, and Vehari, among others. The initiative aims to help deserving women secure sustainable livelihoods through livestock farming.
Under the eligibility criteria, only divorced or widowed rural women up to the age of 55 may apply. Their marital status must be verified by the Punjab Social Protection Authority. Women who have already received livestock under any government scheme in the past five years will not qualify.
The government has also established Chief Minister Facilitation Desks at nearby veterinary hospitals and animal dispensaries to assist eligible women with registration and guidance.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz stated that the challenge of poverty cannot be overcome without bringing rural women into the economic mainstream. She added that empowering rural women through sustainable employment and financial support in the livestock sector remains a government priority.
