Sindh to Set Up High-Tech Digital Forensic Lab

Sindh Police has decided to establish a digital forensic laboratory to improve criminal investigations and deal with the growing use of technology in crime.

The development was discussed during a review meeting chaired by Inspector General (IG) of Police Javed Alam Odho at the Central Police Office on Tuesday.

Speaking at the meeting, IG Odho said modern crimes could no longer be investigated effectively through conventional methods alone. He stressed the need to adopt technology-based and evidence-driven investigation techniques.

Senior officials, including the additional IGP of the Counter-Terrorism Department, DIGs of headquarters, IT, telecommunications and transport, and training, along with assistant inspectors general, attended the meeting.

The officials reviewed proposals related to the establishment of the laboratory, while the project director for IT briefed participants on its proposed scope, technical requirements, and operational framework.

The meeting was informed that nearly 97 percent of investigation cases now involve digital devices such as mobile phones and computers. Officials also noted that around 90 percent of criminal cases worldwide rely on digital evidence.
