Former Balochistan CM Challenges Abolition of Kalat Division in Court

Former Balochistan chief minister Nawab Muhammad Aslam Khan Raisani filed a written petition in the Balochistan High Court (BHC) challenging the provincial government’s decision to abolish Kalat Division and merge Mastung district into Quetta Division.

Raisani, who is also the Chief of Sarawan, filed the petition alongside senior politician and former senator Nawabzada Haji Lashkari Raisani, senior lawyer Riaz Ahmed Advocate and others.

Speaking to the media after filing the petition, Raisani said the abolition of Kalat Division had undermined the region’s historical identity. He said the decision had been made without considering the views of local residents, tribes, elected representatives and other stakeholders.

He described the government’s move as a violation of fundamental rights and expressed concern over the silence of elected lawmakers despite being directly affected by the decision.

Raisani said the government should not make decisions involving land allocation or administrative restructuring without consulting the affected communities and their representatives.

He said that although the provincial government claimed to be democratic, its decisions reflected a dictatorial approach.

Raisani also said Balochistan’s broader problems could not be resolved merely by changing the chief minister. He maintained that only a political approach and a new social contract could bring lasting peace and stability to the province.
