FBR Updates Import Cost of Polyester Filament Yarn

The Directorate General of Customs Valuation Karachi has revised the customs values for imported Polyester Filament Yarn from all countries after determining that international prices have increased since the previous valuation.

According to a new valuation ruling, the revised customs values have been issued under Section 25A of the Customs Act, 1969, replacing the earlier values set under Valuation Ruling No. 2069 of 2026. The review was initiated after stakeholders requested a reassessment, citing changes in international market prices.

Customs authorities said the fresh valuation exercise was carried out to align import values with prevailing global price trends. As part of the process, the directorate invited importers and local manufacturers to present their views and submit supporting evidence before the revised values were finalized.

During the consultations, importers argued that the existing customs values should remain unchanged, saying prices of polyester filament yarn and its raw materials remain highly volatile because of ongoing global conflicts and frequent market fluctuations.

However, local manufacturers maintained that international prices have been following a sustained upward trend and supported an increase in customs values to better reflect current market conditions.

Following consultations with both sides, the Directorate General of Customs Valuation finalized the revised customs values, which will now apply to imports of Polyester Filament Yarn from all origins.
