Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb told participants of the URAAN Overseas Pakistanis Summer Scholars Programme that Pakistan has moved beyond economic stabilization and is now focused on attracting investment, boosting exports, and delivering sustainable economic growth through structural reforms.
Speaking during an interactive session with overseas Pakistani students and young scholars from leading international universities, the finance minister said the government had spent the past two and a half years restoring macroeconomic stability and was now pursuing a growth strategy centered on private sector investment, higher exports, fiscal discipline, and continued reforms.
Addressing the scholars participating in the six-week URAAN Overseas Pakistanis Summer Scholars Programme, organized by the Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Aurangzeb encouraged them to stay connected with Pakistan and use their education, research, and international experience to contribute to the country’s long-term economic development.
The finance minister also highlighted improvements in Pakistan’s sovereign credit profile and the country’s return to international capital markets, including its first Panda Bond issuance. He said the government is diversifying financing sources through innovative financial instruments to strengthen investor confidence and expand access to global capital.
Highlighting Pakistan’s digital economy agenda, Aurangzeb briefed participants on the establishment of the Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA), saying the new regulatory framework will support responsible innovation, strengthen oversight of digital assets, and position Pakistan to benefit from emerging opportunities in digital finance and cryptocurrency-related industries.
He also outlined reforms aimed at improving the business climate, including lowering the cost of doing business through tax rationalization, affordable financing, competitive energy prices, and measures to strengthen export competitiveness.
During a question-and-answer session, participants discussed economic reforms, climate finance, exports, and investment opportunities, while the finance minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating greater opportunities for young professionals to contribute to Pakistan’s economic transformation.
