Govt Orders Uninterrupted Mobile Services Throughout Monsoon

The government has announced a plan to strengthen telecom connectivity across Pakistan during the ongoing monsoon season to ensure uninterrupted communication services.

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has directed all mobile network operators to maintain uninterrupted telecom services and enhance the security of their networks and infrastructure throughout the rainy season.

Emergency Response Centres Activated

According to sources in the Ministry of IT, emergency call centres for 1122 have been activated in all four provinces, allowing the public to access emergency assistance during the monsoon season.

The provincial emergency response centres will remain connected to the National Disaster Management Authority’s (NDMA) central control centre to coordinate responses during floods and other emergencies.

Sources said that all emergency calls received through 1122 during floods and other disaster situations will be responded to promptly. Provincial emergency call centres will also maintain close coordination with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to ensure reliable telecom connectivity for emergency response operations.

The Ministry of IT said that during last year’s floods and natural disasters, the emergency response system received 27.8 million emergency calls.

Despite the challenging conditions, only 7 percent of telecom sites across the country were affected, reflecting the resilience of Pakistan’s telecom infrastructure.

According to ministry sources, 99 percent of the affected telecom sites were restored within one month during last year’s flooding.

The Ministry of IT reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining uninterrupted telecom services and nationwide connectivity throughout the current monsoon season to support emergency response efforts and public safety.
