The Punjab Local Government and Community Development Department has digitized the province’s birth and death registration system under newly notified rules aimed at simplifying the process for citizens.
The new rules will take full effect on August 1, with the registration process operating through an online platform.
Under the revised system, births and deaths can be registered free of charge for up to seven years from the date of occurrence. Computerized birth and death certificates will also be issued without any fee during this period.
The department has abolished all previous registration fees for cases reported within seven years. It has also removed the requirement to obtain a court decree for delayed registrations.
Under the new rules, the secretary of the relevant Union Council will be authorized to register the births of children up to one year of age.
The Assistant Director will approve registrations for children older than one year and up to seven years of age, while cases involving individuals older than seven years will be handled by the relevant Deputy Director.
