A Punjab Assembly standing committee has ordered all private schools in the province to ensure free education for 10 percent of their enrolled students within 10 days.
The committee reviewed the issue of non-compliance with the law requiring private schools to provide free education to a fixed share of students.
During the meeting, a member suggested that authorities should not rely only on school records and should instead directly enroll deserving children in private schools for easier verification.
The committee chairman warned that schools failing to implement the 10 percent free education requirement within the deadline may face license cancellation.
The Secretary for School Education told the committee that the department will collect data from all private schools regarding the free education quota.
