Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat to teach one class at a school every week as part of efforts to strengthen the education sector.
The direction was issued during a special meeting held to review education reforms and ongoing initiatives across the province.
During the meeting, the chief minister reviewed the digital registration system for private schools and discussed measures aimed at improving Punjab’s education sector.
She also sought proposals for the registration of tuition centers across the province and directed officials to develop a mechanism for their digital mapping.
Officials gave a detailed briefing on the school education sector and the Punjab School Reforms Programme (PSRP). The meeting also reviewed possible new sources of revenue for the education sector.
The chief minister was informed that the target of enrolling 4.3 million students in government schools had been achieved within two years and four months.
Officials also said Punjab had recorded its highest level of genuine enrollment in public schools in recent years.
The meeting further made digital salary payments mandatory for teachers working under the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF). Under the initiative, bank accounts will be opened for around 138,000 PEF teachers.
