Food Items That Can Stop Your Hair From Greying

Is there anything more frustrating than finding out that your natural hair is now turning gray? I don’t think so. It’s like that one uninvited aunty that fails to get the hint (You are not wanted here aunty jee). Although grey hair has a lot to do with genetics, sometimes other factors such as stress, vitamin deficiencies, smoking, chemical dyes, and hair products can also cause hair graying. If genetics and aging are causing hair graying, you can’t really do anything to reverse the process. But if your hair is graying because of other factors, you can take steps to ensure that your hair pigment comes back.

If you increase your intake of the following food, you can probably stall your hair graying process. The list includes:

  1. Dark Chocolate
  2. Salmon
  3. Leafy Greens
  4. Chicken
  5. lentils

1. Dark Chocolate:

Trust me on this, if you want your hair to thank you, start having dark chocolate on a regular basis. Dark chocolate is a very good source of copper and iron, two important nutrients that can prevent hair from graying. You must keep your copper level high because, with aging, the melanin level gets lower. Just have a bar or two once a week and you are good to go.

2. Salmon:

Many people do not like Salmon because of its smell. It doesn’t change the fact that Salmon is extremely healthy for us. Salmon consists of nutritional components that can enhance hair growth, remove dullness and bring back the natural shine of our hair. You can have it twice a week to prevent your hair from graying.

3. Leafy greens:

No, don’t roll your eyes at me. It’s better to have your natural hair color than to have gray hair. And trust me, leafy greens aren’t as bad as we have made them sound over the years. Leafy greens are rich in folic acid, an acid that prevents hair from graying and keeps our scalp dandruff-free. You must start having spinach, cauliflower, and lettuce at least once a week.

4. Chicken:

Although it’s hard to believe when you are low on vitamin B-12, it can cause shortness of breath, fatigue, dry scalp, thinning of hair and premature hair graying. And trust me, it’s not hard to keep your vitamin-B12 topped. All you need is to consume lots of eggs, milk, chicken, and cheese. These items are extremely rich in B-12 and other vitamins keeping your strands nourished and strong.

5. Lentils:

Honestly, the best source of B9 is lentils. Just like Vitamin B-12, B-9 helps in the production of RNA and DNA. It plays a very important role in the production of amino acid, methionine which is important for retaining the natural color of your hair. It also plays a huge role in the production of red blood cells.

A piece of advice:

Your worrying will not stop your hair from graying. You should embrace it with open arms. But if it bothers you to the extent that you want to stop your hair from graying, start having foods that are rich in antioxidants.
