LISTENING | IELTS Pakistan | Everything You Need To Know
The Listening test consists of 4 sections.
Before each section, you’ll be presented with onboard IELTS instructions. Typically, test takers are allowed extra minutes to read questions before starting the test. Here’s what you need to keep in mind:
- Do not copy the answers in the breaks between sections.
- Don’t focus on spelling or grammar during the listening!
- Read the instructions and questions very carefully.
- Jot down answers on the test paper FIRST.
Make sure to check spelling and grammar before handing in your answer sheet. Don’t panic and save a few minutes for this very important task.
Reading | Smash This One!
All test takers, note that the required reading skills are the same for both the academic and general training tests.
- Check instructions carefully.
- Don’t panic if you forget the meaning of a word or two; stuff happens.
- Establish a reading habit a month before the test date. This improves your cognitive approach towards basic sentence structures and vocabulary!
- Manage your time best suited to your behavior; make sure you have a few minutes to re-check your work!
Don’t leave any questions unanswered. Attempt all questions; there are no penalties for incorrect answers!
Writing | A Midsummer Tempest
Seriously though; you don’t have to be Shakespeare to ace this section.
Whether you are taking the Academic or General test, you have to complete two writing tasks. As prescribed, you’ll have 60 minutes to do so.
- Use an appropriate writing style.
- Answer each question!
- Be short and concise.
- Practice beforehand to check what 250 words look like in your own handwriting. This is not a drill, so get going!
- It generally goes without saying, but please don’t go off-topic.
What’s the test asking you to do? What is it about? Make sure you write about that and stick to it for the entire test.
Speaking | IELTS Pakistan | Everything You Need To Know
In our opinion, this one’s truly special. Think of it as a trial-and-error makeover before you appear for an embassy interview!
- Communicate effectively
Remember that you are not being tested on your general knowledge but on your ability to communicate effectively. - Listen before opening your mouth
This should be a general life tip, but especially during the speaking IELTS test, you should stay focused and let the examiner ask his\her questions before you attempt your answer. - Keep on talking.
The more you talk, the higher the score. Obviously only if you have something to say, don’t just talk non sense. - Don’t go off topic!
If you do, it might seem to the examiner that you didn’t understand the question. So, take a deep breath and answer carefully. - Talk well
Talk as fluently as possible and use all those words you’ve learnt, try to put them among your well-thought answers, show off your vocabulary.
