World renowned K-pop group BTS may be on a temporary hiatus, but five of the seven members are eligible for the prestigious ‘Album of the Year’ category at the upcoming 66th Annual Grammy Awards.
Among these eligible members, BTS leader RM released his third solo album ‘Indigo’ in December 2022, placing it comfortably within the Grammys’ eligibility window. The album made waves by reaching No. 3 on the Billboard 200.
Next in line is Jimin, who made a memorable debut with his EP ‘Face,’ marked by the chart-topping single “Like Crazy,” which achieved an impressive No. 2 position on the Billboard 200, narrowly missing the top spot.
Shortly after Jimin’s release, Suga unveiled his very first solo album, ‘D-Day.’ Despite his prior chart success with solo mixtapes, and it soared to No. 2 on the Billboard 200, garnering critical acclaim.
In August, J-Hope revisited his album ‘Jack in the Box,’ presenting a deluxe edition named the ‘Hope Edition.’ Remarkably, this edition reached the top 10 on the Billboard 200.
Not to be outdone, V managed to meet the eligibility cutoff date with his debut solo EP, ‘Layover.’ This album reached the No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200 and displayed V’s distinctive musical style.
The Recording Academy, responsible for the Grammy Awards, traditionally does not publicly release the lists of songs and albums submitted for various Grammy categories. Nevertheless, it is widely presumed that RM, Jimin, Suga, J-Hope, and V are all eligible for consideration in the highly coveted ‘Album of the Year’ category at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards.
This extraordinary situation sets the stage for an intense yet friendly competition among the five BTS members, each of whom has demonstrated remarkable solo success and has their sights set on one of the music industry’s most esteemed honors.
