Forced marriages and child marriages are one of the biggest issues of our society. Oftentimes, young kids and minors are forced into marriages with local influential figures and it is later justified on one pretext or the other.
A similar incident was reported from Gotki, Sindh on Tuesday, November 10. Apparently, a moneylender forcibly married 8-year-old Samina to avenge her father’s failure to return his loan.
According to the details, the incident was reported from a nearby village after the girl’s family staged a protest, demanding she be recovered at the earliest.
The girl’s father had borrowed 1 lac rupees from the moneylender 4 months ago. However, he couldn’t repay the loan because of the hefty interest rate. The loan shark then went after his minor daughter Samina as a means to avenge his failure to repay the loan.
Reports suggest that SSP Ghotki has taken notice of the incident and arrested the culprits. The girl was also recovered by the authorities.
