About a month ago, Mehwish Hayat shared a tweet saying that the restrooms at Karachi airport are ‘dirty and stinking’. She shared her ‘misfortune’ on social media saying,
“Had misfortune to use the ladies room at Khi Airport… Even saw cockroaches. Not only is it unhygienic but is this the first impression we want to give to people arriving here?”
Disgusting! Had misfortune to use the ladies room at Khi Airport – dirty and stinking. Even saw cockroaches. Not only is it unhygienic but is this the first impression we want to give to people arriving here? These are the most basic amenities – let's clean up our act

Following this tweet, many more people came out and shared their airport experiences, some of which were really unpleasant.
And the cleaners sitting in the bathroom asking for money is another worst thing. I as Pakistani get irritated every time, Imagine what foreigners think. Either they should be paid enough or forbid them to do so.

2 years ago I had the misfortune of changing my 6 months old baby’s diaper in the karachi departure lounge bathroom. I was whacking away flying cockroaches with one hand to keep my baby safe. While the cleaner kept continuously commenting on how I should or shouldn’t wash my kid

But now, it seems that the authorities have heard her call and decided to bring a change for the better.
On Monday February 24, Mehwish shared a happy update from the airport and wrote,
“So gratifying to pass through KHI Airport today & see this work being carried out on the gents and ladies’ rooms.”
Mehwish also shared a few pictures of construction being carried out and said that airports are the first thing travelers see in a country. She thanked the authorities for listening to her concerns.
“Airports are the 1st impression that visitors have of our country & it should be good one. Thank you to the authorities who listened to my request and took action.”
