The fishing industry in India is huge thanks to the massive coastline and numerous inland water spreads. The industry employs 14.5 million people in the country and comes in second in the entire world for its aquaculture and fisheries production. While fishermen face a lot of difficulties and threats in their line of work, one fisherwoman lucked out big time during her hunt.
Pushpa, who lives in West Bengal, India, bagged a massive fish known as the Asian Sea Bass. Locals reported the fish’s weight to be 52 kilograms. And unlike most of her sales, this one earned her more than Rs. 300,000!
The resident of the Chakphuldubi village on Sagar Island in West Bengal took the fish to the local wholesale market and sold it at Rs 6,200 per kilogram.
The fish turned out to be a jackpot for me. I got more than 3 lakh by selling it in the wholesale market at Rs 6,200 per kilogram.
I have never seen such a giant fish in my life. It is called ‘Bhola’ fish in Bengali.
While Pushpa is old, she showed great strength and courage during her fishing spree. But luckily, the locals helped her bring the fish to the market.
The fish most was probably killed as it collided with a vessel.
One of the local traders reported that had she taken the fish to the market before it started to decompose, she would have made more money. What do you think of this story? Let us know in the comments section.
