With many debates circling around our poor environmental conditions and depleting natural resources, the notion of sustainable living has become more common. The fashion industry as a whole has been called out for its over the top fast-moving trends and contribution to the Greenhouse effect. The issue is so serious, that now Pakistani actress Mansha Pasha has decided to weigh in.
Mansha Pasha dishes out some advice
Taking to her Twitter account, the 33-year-old actress from Mohabbat Tujhe Alvida said she doesn’t understand why sustainable fashion has become a trend now. Is it because it sounds so fancy?
She adds that sustainable fashion is nothing new. We desis have been doing it for ages! Here’s how:
Sustainable fashion/living:
Dont know why this has become a trend because its been given a fancy name. Its basically what parents in the subcontinent have always taught their children: Don’t waste things, use clothes differently on various occasions!
She further expressed how being one of the three sisters in her household, she always shared all of her clothes.
The Zindagi Gulzar Hai actress revealed how at the set of the show the actresses shared the wardrobe to represent our true culture.
Growing up my sisters and i always wore each others clothes multiple times.
The same was done on the Zindagi Gulzar Hai set to give the true vibe of a desi household. Some scenes, I wore Sanam’s clothes, she wore mine or Sana’s.
In short, desi fashion is sustainable fashion.

Mansha Pasha is right in pointing out that ‘sustainable fashion’ has been a part of Pakistani society for a long time. But even if it’s trending for its ‘cool’ and ‘fancy’ name, the notion of the whole movement is to spread awareness amongst the younger generation. Some young uns dread wearing their clothes multiple times, and its time such mindsets are nipped in the bud.
This trend might also change the fashion game amongst big-name brands in the country.
