We have seen a wide variety of ‘socially-woke’ dramas in the Pakistani entertainment industry recently. Shows like Ruswai, Kesa Hai Naseeban, Malaal E Yaar, Rishtay Biktay Hain, and Beti bring up more important conversations than the usual saas/bahu fights. The web-series drama Churails shook things up and introduced a whole new narrative. Will the Minal Khan starrer PYAAS meet up the audience’s new set of expectations? We can’t wait to find out!
Minal Khan’s Role
Minal Khan has been working in showbiz since 2011- after her debut performance as Bano in Geo Tv’s Kaash Main Teri Beti Na Hoti, the actress has appeared in over 2 dozen different roles. But according to the actress’s recent Instagram post, she has never delved into a character like that of her upcoming short film PYAAS.
Her role as Shameem, in the upcoming telefilm produced by Fadia Wajahat, will revolve around the story of a villager. Globally, Pakistan makes it to the list of countries facing severe water scarcity, particularly the rural areas and small villages suffering the most.
Taking to her Instagram account, Minal Khan revealed that her character will portray the struggles of a woman from Kohala Paien, Haripur village. She wrote:
Shameem is a window for me to look in to the life of underprivileged women of Kohala Paien, Haripur who walk through many miles to fetch water for their daily use.
The Nand actress also said that this character has taught her the importance of self-awareness.
Portraying a girl who goes through all this was really a life time experience for me. “WATER” we consume daily & doesn’t realise that how precious it is for someone living nearby.
She concluded the post by adding that this telefilm is only the beginning of what will be a series of moving plays by the director. Minal Khan also thanked Syed Wajahat Hussain for letting her be a part of PYAAS.
