Edhi Centre's Geeta

Edhi Centre’s Geeta, who was sent back to India in 2015, has finally reunited with her mother. The deaf and mute girl mistakenly crossed the border and found herself stranded in Pakistan at the age of 10 or 11. For the past 5 years or so, she had been looking for her family. And now, they have finally reunited.

The 10-year-old was lost and authorities took her to Edhi Centre where Edhi’s wife Bilquis Edhi took care of her. Originally, she had named the girl Fatima after she scribbled the name ‘Guddi’. However, Mrs. Edhi soon realized she was a Hindu girl.

After observing her ways of touching feet, etc, I realised that she was Hindu. That’s when I changed her name to Geeta.

After Geeta was discovered, it was determined she is an Indian girl. In 2015, Geeta was sent back to India. However, no information was found about her family. The Indian government also ran DNA tests of families with missing females. But to no avail.

Now, Geeta has finally reunited with her mother and it has also been revealed that her real name is Radha Waghmare. Radha’s father passed away a few years ago and her mother, Meena has remarried.

The now 27-year-old is extremely happy and shared the good news with Mrs. Edhi, who says:

She may be living in another country now. But she is still a daughter. She still shares all her joys and sorrows with me despite the physical distance between us. And I will be with her on whatever decision she takes for herself.

We are happy to hear that Edhi Centre’s Geeta has finally reunited with her family in India. Her story has finally seen its happy ending. What do you think? Share your views in the comments section.
