The ‘Sindh Compulsory Marriage Act’ took the internet by storm yesterday. While many have expressed their approval, many public figures are totally against it. Bakhtawar Bhutto, on the other hand, clarified that the bill has nothing to do with Sindh Government.
Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) MPA Syed Abdul Rasheed presented a draft of “The Sindh Compulsory Marriage Act, 2021” before the Sindh Assembly Secretariat, according to which, parents who fail to marry their children off after they turn 18 will have to pay Rs500 as a fine.
Moreover, they will have to, “submit an undertaking with justified reason of delay before the Deputy Commissioner of the District”.
Bakhtawar Bhutto on The Sindh Compulsory Marriage Act
The bill has reportedly won the approval of numerous members of the Sindh Assembly, but netizens seem unhappy with it. Many took to Twitter to criticize Sindh Government, i.e. PPP for proposing the bill, but that is not true.
Resharing the tweet, Bakhtawar Bhutto clarified how the Sindh Compulsory Marriage Act came to be and confirms that it has nothing to do with the Sindh government. Furthermore, she says that it will be ‘bulldozed by PPP’.
“Just to clarify: The Sindh compulsory marriage act was introduced by a Jamat e Islami (JI) MPA, not Sindh govt. No way this should even be placed on the floor of the House in the Parliament,” wrote the netizen.
“Exactly – nothing to do with Sindh gov but will be bulldozed by #PPP #SindhGov“
