Muhammad Shahzad: I Don’t Need To Follow Virat’s Fitness Regime

Afghanistan Cricket player thinks weight doesn’t matter in cricket

Afghanistan wicketkeeper and batter, Muhammad Shahzad thinks he can hit longer sixes than Virat Kholi with his current weight.

Virat Kohli upset

The Indian skipper and now the captain of the Indian men’s cricket team Virat Kholi is known for his incredible fitness routine.

Muhammad Shahzad is a 90kg, Afghan cricket player. He has not won many games for Afghanistan but surely made to the headline for all his misconduct. The 30-year-old player simply plays by his own rules. He was banned from the team for one year in the case of dopping. He once joked in an interview about this,

“Dekhiye galti toh insaan se hi hoti hain (humans can make mistakes). I have had two cups of coffee with you and who knows I might test positive after this”.

On his weight

In an interview with an Indian news agency, Shahzad made a statement when he was criticized about the weight he stated,

“Dekhiye hum fitness bhi poori karte hain aur khaate bhi poora hain (I work a lot on my fitness but I won’t compromise on food). You want me to have a fitness routine like Kohli, it is not possible, but I am working on it (losing weight),”

The wicketkeeper believes that his weight is not an issue. He mentioned that his coach is aware that he can field and bat for 50 overs.

He said in his defense

“Jitna lamba chakka woh (Kohli) maarte hain, main unse zyadaa maar saktaa hoon, zaroorat kya hain unki tarah itna diet karne ki (I can hit bigger sixes than Kohli so why do I need to follow his diet?)”

Shahzad ends the conversation by talking about his family and how he misses and adores them.
