Shahid Afridi Calls Out Fake Account Impersonating His Daughter

As Pakistan struggles to keep up with technological development, there are still regressive views about basic things such as social media. So when there was someone impersonating Ansha Afridi on social media, Shahid Afridi had to clear the air.

What civil liberties such as access to the Internet and how someone uses social media within their legal bounds is not something anyone needs to explain. However, impersonating someone else on social media is a crime.

So when someone was impersonating Ansha Afridi on social media, Shahid Afridi had to intervene. It’s very unfortunate that the veteran cricketer had to take to Twitter to clear the air regarding his daughter’s social media accounts.

In a tweet the cricketer-cum-philanthropist said that he wanted to clarify that none of his daughters have any social media accounts. He further said;

“Please disregard any ‘accounts’ or ‘news’ that are associated with my daughters.”

Shahid Afridi also shared a screenshot of a fake social media account of Ansha Afridi.

In today’s day and age, it’s hard to come by people that aren’t on social media. Even people that have regressive ideas about data privacy, have social media accounts with fake names. Which in itself is a problem.

Some people may go the extra mile and use a public figure’s name for their social media account.

Recently, Pakistani television presenter Hamid Mir landed in hot waters over a verified Facebook page in his name. The senior journalist asserted that this Facebook page was not his and even reached out to Facebook demanding to know how they verified a page that is impersonating him.
