Rumor was that the Main Hoon Na actress made the move to show support for Muslim women following the hijab ban in colleges. The move, which is being enforced in the Indian state of Karnataka, has sparked international concerns and outrage.
Many are voicing support for Muslim women in India, their right to religious freedom, as well slamming those trying to police their bodies by telling them what they can and cannot wear. This includes celebs. So when a picture of Rakhi Sawant in a hijab hit the Internet, people assumed she did so to show support.
Though, it turns out that this photograph of the Bollywood item girl circulating on social media is quite old. It doesn’t even have anything to do with the ongoing hijab controversy in India. Don’t believe us? Just do a reverse image search on the viral picture.
That picture is from August 2021. According to a video report published in the Times of India on August 31, 2020, Sawant had arrived at a gym wearing a hijab.
In the video, the controversial celeb explained that she was wearing a short dress inside, and had to wear this outside her house. She wasn’t even sure if what she was wearing was a hijab or not. She said that a friend gifted it to her, and she wore it because she was wearing gym clothes.
