Television actress Maha Hassan, celebrated for her roles in dramas like Ishqiya, Yunhi, and Safar Tamam Hua, has courageously opened up about a traumatic childhood experience of harassment, igniting widespread support and renewed calls for stronger child protection measures in Pakistan.
In a heartfelt interview on a private YouTube channel, the actress shared a deeply personal account of abuse she endured as a young girl, shedding light on an issue that remains shrouded in stigma.
During the candid discussion, which explored various aspects of her life and career, Hasan recounted the harrowing incident. “When I was little, I was spoken to in inappropriate ways and touched wrongly,” she revealed, choosing not to disclose the identity of the perpetrator. “Back then, I didn’t even realize it was wrong.”
The actress reflected on how the lack of awareness at the time prevented her from seeking justice, expressing regret that she didn’t file a First Information Report (FIR). “I wish I had taken legal action, but as a child, I internalized the confusion and blame,” she said.
Maha Hassan shared that the experience profoundly impacted her emotional and spiritual well-being. “It shook my faith. I started questioning religion, my values, and even my existence,” she admitted. However, she emphasized her journey toward healing, crediting therapy and a renewed connection with her faith for her recovery. “Today, my faith is stronger than ever. Prayer has become my source of peace, and I’m content with where I am in life,” she noted, offering a message of resilience.
The actress’s disclosure has resonated deeply with fans and colleagues, who have praised her bravery for speaking out on such a sensitive topic. Her revelation has also sparked broader conversations about the challenges faced by survivors of child abuse in Pakistan, where cultural taboos and fear of judgment often silence victims.
Known for her compelling performances in dramas like Nand and Aik Thi Raniya, Hassan has become a powerful voice in Pakistan’s entertainment industry, joining other public figures in advocating for social change.
