Bollywood star Aamir Khan revealed how Pakistani legend Javed Miandad spoiled his wedding day in 1986 with his iconic last-ball six against India in Sharjah.
On April 10, 1986, 21-year-old Aamir secretly married Reena Dutta because their families didn’t approve. While they were getting married, India and Pakistan were playing a thrilling cricket match in the Austral-Asia Cup.
Aamir recalled that when he and Reena returned home, expecting to celebrate their marriage, everyone was focused on the TV, watching the match. India was close to winning, and Aamir thought it would be a perfect “wedding gift.”
However, with Pakistan needing four runs off the final ball, Javed Miandad hit a six off Chetan Sharma, winning the game for Pakistan. This moment became legendary in Pakistan but was a huge disappointment for Indian fans.
For Aamir, his joy turned into sadness. He joked, “I was devastated. I thought, ‘What a terrible omen—India losing to Pakistan the day I got married!'”
Years later, when Aamir met Miandad, he told him, “Javed Bhai, you didn’t do right by me. You ruined my wedding. That six you hit—I was so upset!”
