Adnan Siddiqui, Maha Tahirani Short Film ‘Jamun Ka Darakht’ Selected for Cannes World Film Fest

Renowned Pakistani scriptwriter Bee Gul, celebrated for her storytelling acumen, and director Rafay Rashdi have teamed up for the upcoming short film, Jamun Ka Darakht, which has been accepted into the prestigious Cannes World Film Festival.

Rashdi took to Facebook with a post to announce that the film has been ‘officially selected,’ featuring an official poster carrying the film fest’s laurel. In January, the filmmaker shared the first trailer on Instagram, providing a glimpse into the intricate storytelling that explores the nuances of consensuality between individuals, promising a thought-provoking cinematic experience.

The trailer, shrouded in secrecy regarding specific character details, hints at a narrative delving into manipulative dynamics orchestrated by Adnan’s character, exploring sensitive themes such as harassment, sexual assault, and blind lust.

The film, featuring the return of esteemed actor Adnan Siddiqui, alongside a talented ensemble cast including supermodels Maha Tahirani and Fouzia Aman, signifies a diverse and powerful lineup. Collaboratively produced by Rafay Rashdi Productions, Syed Murad Ali & Wah Wah Productions, and Faisal Kapadia, Jamun Ka Darakht pushes the boundaries of traditional storytelling.

With its promise of discomfort, depth, and thought-provoking storytelling, the film stands on the brink of making a profound impact, inviting viewers to step into a realm where storytelling transcends boundaries and leaves an indelible mark on the cinematic landscape.

The Cannes World Film Festival highlights films and documentaries from filmmakers covering the themes of human rights, social justice, health, and disability.

The jury comprises seven members from the film, music, and other artistic and cultural fields. The films chosen for the ‘Best of Future’ selection by the jury are presented to the public during monthly screenings at ‘Cineum Cannes’.
