Ali Sethi Makes It to Times100 Gala with Artistic Flair

Ali Sethi has just raised the bar even higher.

There is nothing Pakistan is short of when it comes to talent and artistic flair. Singer-muscian Ali Sethi has just raised the bar even higher by making it to the Times100 Gala. There is no doubt that he is a complete power-packed artistic package and is doing the country proud.

Every year, Time Magazine picks out 100 inspiring people ranging from musicians to, government officials as well as movement leaders, medical professionals, and high-profile whistle-blowers and top CEOs for its TIME100 Next list, and Ali Sethi is lucky to be featured on the list this year.

The Pasoori singer had no qualms in stepping his best fashion foot forward. He was spotted wearing a kilt and poncho, and he rounded off his look with a beret adorned with a brooch. The actor’s style is somehow unconventional and classic at the same time. He is popular for his uncanny ability to experiment with his music as well as his style and ace everything with perfection.

The renowned author of The Nutmeg’s Curse, Amitav Ghosh penned the following words to capture the brilliance of the pride of Pakistan:

Though written in Punjabi by a Pakistani artist, Ali Sethi’s song ‘Pasoori’ has become a global sensation with close to 400 million views on YouTube. Even more remarkable, the song has found a huge following in neighbouring India despite the escalating tensions between the two countries.

He described Sethi’s gift as the ability to use an ancient form of music, the classical raga, to challenge and expand notions of gender, sexuality, and belonging.

“‘Pasoori’ is a virtuoso demonstration of how artists can, in subtle ways, subvert the restrictions that are being imposed upon them by new forms of authoritarianism and intolerance,” Ghosh added.
