As Alia Bhatt announced her pregnancy on Monday aside from the funny memes, there were a lot of patriarchial slams online. So the Bollywood diva is calling out the patriarchy.
As the Brahmastra costars made headlines with the pregnancy announcement, not everyone had nice things to say. There were those speculating this was an ‘accident’ that caused the duo to get married. Meanwhile, there were those suggesting it foreshadows the Highway actor’s break from the biz or retirement.
So she addressed various reports suggesting that she will be taking a break after completing her work commitments to focus on her pregnancy.
In an Instagram story, the ‘Dear Zindagi‘ star clapped back at those spreading negativity surrounding a major milestone in her life.
“We still live in some patriarchal world .. fyi.”
She particularly called out a report saying that Ranbir Kapoor will be flying to the UK to ‘bring his wife home‘ in mid-July.
“Nothing has gotten delayed! No one needs to PICK anyone up. I’m a woman not a parcel. I do not need to REST at all but good to know you’ll have a doctor’s certification as well.”
Alia Bhatt called out how she can continue to work because that’s a choice she can make.
“This is 2022. Can we pls get out of this archake (archaic) way of thinking! Now if you would excuse me… My shot is ready.”
On the work front, the celebrity duo will next be seen in ‘Brahmastra: Part One Shiva‘. She will also be seen in Karan Johar’s directorial venture ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani‘. The actress will also mark her production debut with ‘Darlings‘.
In a separate Instagram post, the Student of The Year actress thanked all her fans and well-wishers.
