Hollywood actor Johnny Depp may have won the trial but he lost to his ex-wife, Amber Heard, who overtook him as Google’s ‘most searched celebrity’ of 2022.
The Aquaman actress surpassed the likes of Kim Kardashian, Elon Musk, Pete Davidson, Tom Brady, and even the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Amber Heard topped the list according to a Hollywood news website that analyzed data points from Google search trends that tracked over 150 notable celebrities in 2022. She reportedly had an average of 5.6 million searches every month in the United States alone.
Interestingly, the second Hollywood star right behind her on the list is none other than Johnny Depp who earned 5.5 million searches per month.
The late Queen Elizabeth II is in third place with 4.3 million searches per month, while NFL star Tom Brady, Kim Kardashian, and Pete Davidson placed fourth, fifth, and sixth respectively. Elon Musk is all the way down at seventh place, which just goes to show that a lot happened this year, but nothing was as much talked about as the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard court trial.
Amber Heard vs. Johnny Depp
Amber Heard had accused her now ex-husband, Johnny Depp, of domestic violence in an op-ed piece in the British tabloid, The Sun, in 2018. In response, he sued her for defamation.
The subsequent court case, which ran from 11 April 2022 to 1 June 2022, ended with the ruling in Johnny Depp’s favor. The judge ordered Amber Heard to pay him $10.35 million for damaging his reputation, and the Aquaman actress is still trying to find the means to foot the bill.
Even though the Depp/Heard defamation trial is over, nothing is settled between the two and the latter recently sued her own insurance company after it denied helping her pay the losses to her ex-husband.
