Nikhil Nanda, the son-in-law to  Amitabh Bachchan, has been accused of fraud and abetment to suicide in a case filed in Uttar Pradesh.
The allegations stem from the death of a businessperson, Jitendra Singh, who reportedly took his own life after facing alleged harassment and intimidation.
Nanda, who is married to Amitabh’s daughter Shweta Bachchan and is the grandson of Bollywood icon Raj Kapoor, serves as the chairperson and managing director of Escorts Kubota.
According to a complaint filed by Jitendra Singh’s brother, the businessperson was allegedly threatened with dire consequences, including the revocation of his dealership license and the auctioning of his property, if he failed to meet the company’s demands.
The harassment reportedly escalated in the days leading up to Singh’s death. On November 21, company officials visited Singh’s dealership, allegedly issuing further threats. The very next day, Singh took his own life.
Singh’s brother revealed that the deceased had shared his struggles with his family, frequently discussing the harassment he was facing.
Following a court order, a formal case has now been registered against Nanda and other employees of Escorts Kubota. The charges include fraud, intimidation, and abetment to suicide.
Nikhil Nanda’s ties to Bollywood royalty have only amplified the public interest in the case. Married to Shweta Bachchan since 1997, Nanda is part of two of India’s most illustrious families: the Bachchans and the Kapoors.
His grandfather, Raj Kapoor, is a legendary figure in Indian cinema, while his father-in-law, Amitabh Bachchan, is one of the most iconic actors in Bollywood history.
Despite the gravity of the allegations, neither Nanda nor the Bachchan family has released an official statement addressing the case.
