As many Pakistani directors and producers are venturing towards web series, Khaani director Anjum Shahzad joins the bandwagon with ‘Abdullahpur Ka Devdas‘.
Even with Parwaaz Hai Junoon filmmaker Haseeb Hasan working on a web series, it’s no wonder most directors are rushing to get of hang of content geared towards online audiences only.
Anjum Shahzad’s last Khaani, with Feroze Khan and Sana Javed garnered all the praise last year and bagged five Lux Style Awards.

About Abdullahpur Ka Devdas
What does Anjum have in store for his first web series? According to Entertainment.pk, famed playwright and novelist Umera Ahmed’s company ‘Alif Kitab Publication‘, is involved in writing the script for it.
While Umera herself won’t be penning the script, one of her new writers Shahid will be drafting it under her supervision.
As for production duties, Group M is behind the production of Abdullahpur Ka Devdas. The production house recently co-produced Amir Yousaf’s upcoming police drama Janbaaz with EverReady pictures.
Group M has bought other media production houses and they also made drama serial Alif with producers Sana Shahnawaz and Samina Humayun Saeed .

Abdullahpur Ka Devdas might not be an organic web series. The series is actually being created for television. Once it’s aired on television it will be available on a digital platform. Then again most cable networks share their content online once it’s been aired on TV.
There are also rumors that Abdullahpur Ka Devdas will be directly launched on an international platform. There is still no official confirmation that the series is being made.
Considering the team on board, it seems film and drama creators are taking on web series as mega projects with massive budgets.
