Are Ramzan Transmissions Getting a Lot of Hate Right Now?

Agree or disagree?

ramzan transmissions

Ramzan is a holy month that is observed by Muslims all around the world. Throughout the year, the international Muslim community eagerly waits for this month to fast and pray whereas, in Pakistan, the scenario is a little different when it comes to TV. Because television networks race each other on who will create the biggest Ramzan transmissions with the highest ratings and the most popular celebrities. These transmissions become an all-out war between channels fighting for who will win the popularity and ratings contest.

While some channels shine through with game shows that are specific to Ramzan, some have scholars and celebrities sitting around, discussing a variety of Islamic teachings and issues with one another.

Considering the situation of the world in terms of the novel Coronavirus, PEMRA announced that a live audience is no longer permitted in these transmissions. However, the channels didn’t cancel the transmissions but came up with a new plan altogether. Celebrities are bracing the production sets with their presence instead of a live audience. They are playing games and doing a variety of things live on camera, for those watching them on TV.

Too Much?

In a departure from last year’s, the audience has criticized TV networks for hosting such transmissions amid the Coronavirus scare as it further endangers the celebrities and enables the outbreak to spread.

It is safe to assume that this is a very risky endeavor because we do not see any of these dolled-up celebrities wearing masks. For productions as big as these Ramzan transmissions, there is a whole team of spot boys, cameramen, and people running the show behind the curtains. This creates a higher risk of further spreading the Coronavirus to hundreds and thousands of people simply for the sake of the ratings that these channels want.

No matter what the reason for these Ramzan transmissions are, one thing is clear – It is a health hazard for the celebrities, people on sets, and everyone else who is remotely associated with anyone present. This does not send out the right message for a nation that is looking to fight a highly contagious pandemic.

Social media reactions pour in

Here is what people have to say about these Ramzan transmissions:

Some people wanted Ramzan transmissions to be done without celebrities.

Some people, on the other hand, have highlighted how absurd it is to have celebrities who have a lack of Islamic knowledge themselves, be teaching topics related to religion.

Some people highlighted the gravity of the situation. They mention how even mosques are being called out for not enforcing rules, but these channels don’t learn.

Some people had legitimate reasons.

Sarcastic comments didn’t take a backseat either.

Of course, some people believe that the coronavirus was ‘unleashed for a reason.’

All of this brings us back to the point – is it really necessary to host these Ramzan transmissions amid the current situation? The infections keep piling up with every day, with 13,965 Pakistanis affected so far.  Couldn’t these celebrities stay home, or take the right medical precautions so they don’t further spread the virus?

What do you think?

Comments

  1. Ramazan transmission on various channels must be immediately stopped since Roza is an independent personal prayer and in these transmissions, ladies and gents are sitting together wasting time and nothing else. Actually, channels have to complete 24 hours and they adopt themselves in accordance with the whatever way the wind blows. Alhamdolillah, who understands the sanctity and purity of this ibadat (Roza) never switch on their TV in the Holy month of Ramadan.
