The ongoing cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan have been tough for many Pakistani artists and actors. Asim Azhar is one of those artists who is dealing with the repercussions of the situation as his brand new single gets delayed from release.

Asim Azhar Can’t Work With His Record Label

Turns out Asim had recorded a single with an Indian music video producer. The record label was also Indian and the rest, as they say, is still up in the air.

“I had recorded the single and had gone to Sri Lanka and shot a beautiful video for it with Tanishk Bagchi, who is one of the most successful music video producers in India. My team at Universal Music India and I were planning the release when the cross-border situation suddenly worsened. We decided to wait it out until things improved. But that just didn’t happen. Now, we have come to terms with the fact that it may take considerable time before Indo-Pak relations become more peaceful,” says Asim Azhar.

Other Pakistani Artists Face The Same Issue

Asim is not alone in the situation as many other singers are dealing with the consequences of hostile Indo-Pak relations. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s song recently got removed from the soundtrack of Salman Khan’s upcoming Dabangg 3

More Music For Pakistani Audience

The singer faces a conundrum primarily due the record label that he had signed up with was Indian: Universal Music India. Neither Asim nor his record company can do anything as tensions escalate.

That hasn’t stopped the singer from recording new songs such as ‘Ghalat Fehmi’ for the hit Lollywood movie Superstar.

The song is hugely popular that when Asim accompanied the movie’s cast for a pre-release promotional appearance, the audience began to sing the song along with him.

“God has been very kind to me. ‘Ghalat Fehmi’ was a hit and now I am concluding this year with a concert tour across Pakistan as well as some shows in the U.S.”

Asim’s Two Cents On The Indo-Pak Issue

In a recent interview, Asim expressed his feelings regarding current situation between the neighbouring countries.

“It was frustrating, waiting for the political situation between India and Pakistan to get better so that my singles could release,” he recalls. “There was nothing that could be done. My music is my way of expressing myself and I felt as if I was caged. I was really down and then, I decided let these emotions out by creating more songs. I think that I have about 20 to 40 songs that are partially or completely ready now.”

The Silver Lining For Asim

For now, Asim will no longer rely on Indo-Pak relations for his next few songs. He and his record company have mutually agreed that Asim can release his new music independently.

Looks like things aren’t slowing down for Asim Azhar despite these hiccups and delays. He continues to release new songs and that’s good to know.
