The Indian Supreme Court recently announced its verdict in the recently infamous Ayodha case on Saturday, which sparked celebration from Bollywood stars all around.
The verdict stated that the long disputed territory for Babri Masjid (mosque) shall be handed over to the Hindus, while the Muslim community shall be alloted land as replacement for the destruction of Babri Mosque.
The long disputed ownership for the area between the Muslims and Hindues has been a point of contention for centuries, and while the verdict may have been a victory for the Hindu majority, there has also been criticism over how the court has basically given in to the maxim that “Might is right.”
Even though the same court previously ruled that the destruction of the Babri Masjid in the early 90s was illegal, it still went ahead with its verdict. Commentators are correct in saying that the decision is going to contribute more to the rise of Hindu nationalism and extremist ideologies. No longer can India claim that its a secular country by definition.
Bollywood speaks about the Ayodhya Verdict
Many famous celebrities, including Vivek Oberoi, Madhur Bhandarkar, Koena Mitra, Huma Qureshi, Kunal Kapoor, Taapsee Pannu and Farhan Akhtar gave their opinions over the politically charged verdict.
Here are some of the Tweets in reaction to the Indian Supreme Court’s announcement:

As you can see, most of these tweets sidestep the very real injustice being caused to India’s Muslim community, opting instead to take neutral or self-congratulatory views that are out of touch with the ground realities.
But really, what can be surprising about an industry where money makes the world go round?
