Cannoli Café Changes Its Logo’s Typography to Urdu

Will this put an end to the scandal once and for all?

Cannoli

The Cannoli scandal took over social media last week. Countless netizens took to Twitter to express their concerns over the owners’ disgraceful behavior with the restaurant’s manager. Many even wondered whether the ladies needed a ‘privilege check’. But it all, hopefully, comes to an end with the restaurant’s logo getting replaced with Urdu typography. Or does it?

The Cannoli Scandal

A video posted by Cannoli on Instagram, that was later deleted, caused outrage on social media. The owners could be seen humiliating their restaurant’s manager over his inability to converse in fluent English.

Netizens made it their duty to school the owners on privilege and prejudice. The hashtag #BoycottCannoli was also trending on Twitters. And many were debating whether their act was prearranged or harmless fun.

Let’s take a look at the video:

The manager’s interview

You can only imagine the kind of backlash this video received. The backlash was followed by an ingenuine apology statement by Cannoli Islamabad. After this, the manager gave an interview as well.

After several tactics for damage control, it seems like the public was still not happy. The apology statement was scrutinized. And on top of that, Awais’ statements were deemed ‘scripted’.

Now, to put an end to the whole scandal, Cannoli has changed its logo. The typography of its logo was in English when the whole scandal started. But now it’s in Urdu.

Here’s what the logo looked like before:

In other news, a few protesters marched outside Cannoli Islamabad. They reportedly participated in a Urdu mushaira ‘in protest’ outside the café. This was a humorous mockery at the owners of the café who consider Urdu to be an inferior language.
