Coke Studio: ‘Pasoori’ Is The Perfect Venting Anthem Voicing Our Angst [Review]

Coke Studio 14 released its sixth song and we’re totally feeling the vibe

Pasoori - Ali Sethi

Coke Studio 14 released its sixth song and we’re totally feeling the vibe. Featuring Ali Sethi and Shae Gill ‘Pasoori’ is the perfect venting anthem for desis.

Ali Sethi penned the lyrics to this track describing pent-up emotions. While the song does talk about a hit-and-miss, we can easily apply this track to any situation.

The longing for something, not just someone. And the angst that comes with it. Ali Sethi started writing Pasoori at a time when local performers were barred from working across the border. Which explains why we feel the angst poured into the song.

From talking about wanting to break barriers to urging acceptance. Pasoori talks about societal barriers and restrictions. It then pushes people to explore self-acceptance and then unapologetic self-expression.

As usual, another Ali Sethi song that is far deeper than what meets the eye. Despite the upbeat music, the lyrics really hit you. Meanwhile, Shae Gill’s smooth and strong vocals add more kick to the tune.

The song is so relatable for every desi man and woman.

The music video is no less breathtaking. Video director Kamal Khan incorporated various styles and showcased communal spirit with his very inclusive direction. The visuals showcase a variety of different emotions, styles, and spirituality.

The beautiful performance by the iconic Sheema Kirmani is definitely a highlight. That paired with the Seraiki jhoomar dancers was a cherry on top.

The ethnic inclusivity of the video only further resonates with the spirit of the song. It represents how culture should be aware of its traditions, but ever-evolving and expanding to include people. Not afraid to transcend boundaries and break barriers.
