The Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi Bench has indefinitely postponed the hearing of Arshad Khan, popularly known as Chaiwala, in his case against the cancellation of his Pakistani citizenship and CNIC.

The hearing was adjourned after both NADRA and Arshad Khan’s lawyers requested more time to submit necessary documents and responses. Justice Jawad Hassan accepted their requests and gave the case a “date in office” status, meaning it will be scheduled again when both sides are ready.

Government intelligence agencies, including ISI and IB, have submitted reports claiming that the viral chaiwala, Arshad Khan, is an Afghan national. However, Arshad’s petition states that he was born in 1999 in Shah Allah Ditta, Islamabad. He also mentioned that his father, Baz Mohammad Khan, received a Pakistani passport in 1984 before travelling to Saudi Arabia for work.

The federal government was represented by Deputy Attorney General Sajid Tanoli in court.

Arshad Khan became famous in 2016 after a photo of him serving tea at a stall in Islamabad went viral on social media, making him a well-known figure both in Pakistan and internationally.

The case will remain on hold until further notice from the court.
