Cross-border Romance: Indian Man Tries to Cross Border for Pakistani Girlfriend

Straight outta Bollywood!

Bollywood has propagated some pretty problematic tropes. You’d think by now people would realize how unrealistic Bollywood stories really are, but no. In a recent Bollywood inspired cross-border romance, an Indian man was arrested at the border while he tried to illegally cross the border to see his Pakistani beau.

Cross-border romances can be heavy as it is, but this kid really thought he could bust through the border to his happy ending like Shahrukh Khan or Sunny Deol. Yet somewhere deep inside us, a hopeless romantic is still rooting for the boy.

20-year old Siddiqui Mohammad Zishan, who is an engineering student, fell for a young woman from Pakistan named Samra. They met online and their love blossomed through Facebook. Zishan wasn’t about to let 1200 miles get between them so he set out to go to Faisal Town, Karachi.

He almost managed to get to the love of his life, until reality struck. Siddiqui was trying to illegally cross the Indo-Pak border to get into Pakistan. He successfully managed to get to the imaginary line in Rann of Kutch, but then he got caught by Indian authorities. That certainly stopped his cross-border romance short.

India Today reported that law enforcement was already looking for the boy after his parents lodged a missing person report. Maharashtra Police Crime Branch shared his details with the Gujarat Police. The Balasar police station in Gujarat’s Kutch district then informed Border Security Forces (BSF).

BSF then launched a search operation and followed the boy’s mobile tracking system to a location near Dhoiavira. The troops found Zishan’s black-colored Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with a Maharashtra number near Fossil Park.

The troops found the young man unconscious in Rann of Kutch, near Thar. He had passed out from dehydration. When BSF interrogated the man, like a Bollywood hero, he came clean.

We don’t really know if he made a fool of himself (who are we kidding, he probably did).

He was found just 1.5 kilometers from the border. Had he crossed over, this story might have ended up like other cross-border romances in the past, in prison.

A word of adivce for next time Zishan. Just apply for a visa, like regular people.
