‘Culture Vulture’, Netizens Slam Kim Kardashian for Buying Diana’s Cross Pendant

The cross was only ever worn by the princess, and following her death, it was never seen in public.

Over the years, renowned social media personality, Kim Kardashian has acquired a covetable collection of historical fashion goods for herself. Back in 2011, she bought jewelry from an auction that once belonged to Elizabeth Taylor and Michael Jackson’s velvet jacket, which he reportedly wore while out with Taylor once. This week, Kardashian is making headlines once again with her purchases at auction houses.

According to a Sotheby’s press release, Kardashian just bought Princess Diana’s amethyst and diamond necklace dubbed the Attallah Cross. The pendant was bought for a whopping $197,453, which was double its pre-auction estimate.

Princess Diana famously donned the cross at a charity gala in 1987, pairing it with a black and purple Catherine Walker gown. The cross was purchased from luxury jewelry designer Garrard by businessman Naim Attallah in the 1980s, and he loaned it to the royal over a number of years.

A number of people took to Twitter following the news that Kim Kardashian had acquired the luxury item, slamming her for her purchase.

It is not the first time Kardashian got her hands on the iconic fashion piece. Last year at the Met Gala, she wore Marilyn Monroe’s famous ‘Happy birthday Mr. President’ dress for the red carpet and reportedly ruined it.

The Marilyn Monroe dress had several crystals missing while some of them were hanging on by a thread. The delicate silk soufflé fabric had torn near the zipper and clasp.

In other words, Kim Kardashian was too big for the dress.
