Did Coldplay Rip Off Abdullah Qureshi’s Music Video?

The British band’s music video for ‘Daddy’ is very similar to ‘Laapata’

Popular rock band Coldplay are enjoying great success with their latest album. The British band recently released a music video for their single ‘Daddy’ is heart-warming and moving. However, there are people who believe that the single is too familiar, especially for fans of Abdullah Qureshi.

Speculations have aroused that the British band’s music video has some very striking similarities to Pakistani singer/songwriter Abdullah Qureshi’s video for ‘Laapata’. When comparing the two videos, the similarities are uncanny. Both videos feature a little girl on a journey in search for her father.

Let’s check out the two videos here:

Images reached out to Abdullah Qureshi to respond to the discussion on social media surrounding the two tracks. “I myself am a huge Coldplay fan,” said Abdullah.

“I grew up listening to them. I feel like if it’s anyone’s fault, it’s the production house – named Aardman Animations – that made the video, unless it was Coldplay’s own idea. But I really think we can’t blame Coldplay, the band for it because I’ve heard their music, I’ve done a lot of research on them, I’ve seen a lot of documentaries about them, I’ve attended their concerts. I know Coldplay, they’re very honest people. You can tell [a lot] about a musician when you listen to their music so I know they’re very honest human beings. Deep down inside, I feel honoured because I’m a huge, huge fan… So even if they did it on purpose, I’m honoured that they got inspired by my work.”

While the young Pakistani singer  has a very positive outlook on the whole issue, if this is true, then credit should be given where it’s due.

So far Coldplay has not yet commented on the matter. Stay tuned to find out what the British band has to say.
