Did You Know Ali Fazal Was the First Choice to Play Munna in Mirzapur? [Video]

This is interesting.

Mirzapur

Amazon Prime series Mirzapur took the internet by storm last month with its season 2. The main leads, Guddu Pandit (played by Ali Fazal) and Munna Tripathi (played by Divyendu Sharma) finally face-off one another in the second season and battle has gotten intense.

But have you ever thought what it would feel like if the roles were switched? That’s right, in a recent interview with Filmfare, Ali Fazal revealed that he was initially offered to play the role of Munna Tripathi in Mirzapur.

However, his heart was set on playing Guddu from the moment he had read the script. But when he found out he was being offered Munna’s character, he almost dropped the offer and the show altogether.

Fazal recalled,

“I was stuck on Guddu. I was offered another part initially. I think it was Munna’s part, which Divyenndu has done. At that time, I was so invested in Guddu because I felt like there was so much I could bring to it.”

“I really like parts that are unpredictable to me. If I can figure out the entire journey in my head, then it’s no fun. There won’t be any team work because I am not the only person. So I made an excuse. I said I don’t have dates, something has come up, and left.”

The makers then called him again and said they wanted to try how it works out and the rest is history.
