Did You Know This Son of a Mechanic Passed His CSS Exams?

A tale of true grit and hard work.

We often take our privileges for granted, but stories like that of Zohaib Qureshi make us realize how fortunate we are. For us the Central Superior Services (CSS) Exam is but one option, for him, it was the biggest dream in his life.

Passing the CSS Exam was a tough grind for the Larkana native. He came 260th on the merit list in the CSS 2019 examinations and is headed to the Inland Revenue Department after his training.

His training will begin in October. According to BBC, Zohaib Qureshi wants his children to attempt the CSS exam much like his father wanted for him. His father the famous motor mechanic in Larkana.

“My father Abdul Latif Qureshi was a famous motor mechanic in Larkana. All the elders and officers of Larkana and its environs used to get their vehicles repaired by them.”

When the privileged people in Larkana would have their vehicles repaired by Abdul Latif Qureshi, he set his heart on his son getting there too one day. He did all he could to get them there.

From enrolling them in a revered private school in Larkana, Shams Public School to paying for English tuitions. Then when Zohaib Qureshi asked to be enrolled in Cadet College, of course, his parents went above and beyond to make that happened.

“When I reached 6th and 7th class, I saw the students of Cadet College Larkana coming in special uniforms with great pomp. I also had a desire in my heart to study in Cadet College Larkana.”

After FSc, Zohaib tried becoming a commission officer but couldn’t clear the ISB. So he enrolled in Mechanical Engineering at the Mehran University, Jamshoro. Around that time his father’s health was deteriorating and it’s as if his whole world began to unravel.

His brother made the ultimate sacrifice and dropped out of university to take over his father’s work. Abdul Latif died before getting to see Zohaib graduate. After his graduation, Zohaib tried preparing for the CSS exam while holding a job as a monitoring assistant in the Sindh Education Department.

Eventually, his family encouraged him to leave the finances to them and keep his eyes set on the goal. He was scared and running blind trying to prepare for CSS on his own.

Until that life-changing decision when he quit his job to go prepare for CSS in Islamabad. When he was held back by one subject after his first attempt he was heart-broken. Yet his heart was still set on CSS, so he went back to Islamabad to try again.

After attempting the last exam he headed back home to be faced with nosey relatives and their draining commentary. Finally one fateful day in October 2019 he passed the exam. Prepping for the interview was no bed of roses either. His own teachers doubted him.

He passed the interview too and just in time for Father’s Day. It’s like his father was looking out for him all along. He literally started from the bottom and now he’s an inspiration for all.
