Doda

Looks like Pakistani cinema is really growing as a Baloch language film Doda just hit the theatres! Indeed, it is Pakistan’s first Balochi-language movie.

The film had two screenings on its opening day in theatres on Sunday. Starring Shoaib Hassan in the lead role, the movie follows a former boxer from a tiny village.

We see the central character of the story on his journey to overcome, his past, and right the wrongs.

Adil Bizanjo is the film’s director that was filmed in the Lyari and Gadani areas of Karachi.

Doda release date was initially planned for  April 10, 2020. However, much like all other movies slated for release in 2020, it was postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Previously, during a special Eid episode of Aaj Ka Pakistan, with Sidra Iqbal, actors Shoaib Hassan and Abila Kurd talked about the film. They emphasized the significance of this publication, given how Baloch culture is not well represented in mainstream media if mentioned at all.

As per Shoaib Hassan, the message in Doda is profound. It says that despite limitations imposed by commitments and lack of opportunities if you have a strong passion for something, there is always a way to transform that passion into a possibility.
