‘Every Girl Has the Right to Marry of Her Own Will,’ Fawad Chaudhry Defends ‘PDA Couple’

He spoke out in support of the couple who was expelled from the University of Lahore.

On Monday Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhry spoke up in support of the two students expelled from the University of Lahore. The university decided to take strict action against the couple after their proposing video went viral on social media.

Earlier, two university students became targets of the public’s backlash. A girl was seen publicly proposing to a guy. And while we have seen many celebrities doing the same, netizens were extremely outraged.

Don’t know what we’re talking about? Let’s take a look at the video:

Many questioned the couple on both religious and moral grounds. Some even demanded that the university take strict action against the ‘culprits’. And soon notice of the university expelling the two students started making rounds. The couple was no longer allowed on university premises.

Many celebrities and public figures spoke out in support of the couple. They believe the university students have done nothing wrong – and Fawad Chaudhry is one of them.

The PTI member took to his Twitter account and wrote:

Every girl has the right to marry of her own will. Marriage by choice is one of the central rights Islam gives to women. The university administration should reconsider its decision. It is against [the teachings of] Islam to treat women as property.
