Fahad Mustafa Makes An Insensitive Joke Regarding Harassment On Set

Not you too Fahad!

Fahad Mustafa

Celebrities often land in hot water over insensitive remarks. The most recent to land in hot water is none other than popular actor and TV show host Fahad Mustafa.

We’ve seen time and again that Pakistani celebrities often take serious issues like sexual abuse and harassment lightly. Some of them even cracking jokes regarding the #MeToo movement.

Despite undertaking legal reforms to combat harassment issues faced by women from all walks of life, Pakistani society needs to do a lot more to drive home the point that its not ok to mistreat women.

What Happened With Fahad Mustafa

While filming a recent episode for his show, Fahad Mustafa was being chase by his friends on set. He reportedly said:

“Mei kal Facebook per harassment ka case karun ga tum pe. Beta, ye chal raha haiKal to dekho tum log.” (I will be putting up a harassment case against you on Facebook. This is the trend these days. I’ll see you guys tomorrow.)

Actors Aijaz Aslam and Faisal Qureshi were guests on his show when Fahad allegedly said this.

Sadaf Kanwal Also Lands In Hot Water Over Insensitive Joke

Fans pointed out that while Hania Amir was all for empowering women by sharing her acne scars, she made fun of violence against women.

Can’t have your cake and eat it too Hania.

The Need for Awareness

While people in the biz can feign naivety, these supposedly ‘informed’ celebs need to reform themselves as well. Recently Pakistan People’s Party politician Shazia Marri had to school journalist Kashif Abbasi over the issue.

On his show, Kashif Abbasi made an insensitive remark;

“Aap aurton ki liye bohut asaan hai shor daalna.(It’s so easy for women to raise a hue and cry over anything).

He made this remark while discussing the sexual harassment case involving the National Accountability Bureau’s chairman.

That’s when Shazia Marri had to school the journalist on who the actual victims were. The female parliamentarian gave the journalist a reality check.

One thing is for sure. A lot of people need to realize the harassment is a real issue, and that making crass jokes isn’t the way to go about it.
