Faryal Mehmood Opens Up About How Sonya Hussyn Body-Shamed Her in the Past [Video]

The ‘Farwa Ki ABC’ co-stars share a tumultuous history.

Faryal Mehmood

Faryal Mehmood and Sonya Hussyn have worked together in the 2015 drama Farwa Ki ABC, however, they didn’t get off to a good start. Faryal had just started her career, but the Ishq Zah-e-Naseeb actor was really mean to her and made fun of her on social media as well.

She recently appeared on Express TV’s Time Out with Ahsan Khan, where she opened up about being bullied and body shamed by Sonya Hussyn.

During a segment, host Ahsan Khan recalled the time Faryal Mehmood had replaced Sonya Hussyn in a film, and later in an interview, Sonya said that she doesn’t know who Faryal is. Here is the interview clip:

This was definitely fishy, due to the fact that they clearly shared screen space in Farwa Ki ABC. Moreover, Sonya Hussyn also made crass comments about her co-star, which we will discuss in a minute.

Upon Ahsan’s query, Faryal pointed out that it was not once, but Sonya had denied her existence in the industry twice, hence it wasn’t ‘random’.

“Sonya doesn’t know me, but I know her really well. We have worked together.”

Faryal further mentioned,

“She made fun of me for being fat, which is very wrong. I called her out and it’s really a story. But then all of a sudden she doesn’t know me now. It’s fine, I know her and she is a really good actor… She might have some issues with me, probably professional jealousy, but it’s okay.”

The clash between Sonya Hussyn and Faryal Mehmood

When Faryal stepped into the industry, she was quite fat. After her debut drama, she worked on a new project, titled Bechaari.

In a Facebook status, Sonya Hussyn made fun of Faryal’s new project. Joining in the mockery was Sohail Javed, the director behind Farwa Ki ABC. The two also exchanged comments under the post, where they did not only make fun of Faryal’s upcoming drama but also body-shamed her.

Later, Faryal made a Facebook status of her own and called out Sohail Javed for allegedly wanting the attention of women half his age and attributing the failure of the drama Farwa Ki ABC on his failure as a director.

She also called Sonya a ‘sad version of Micheal Jackson’ because of her supposedly using make-up foundation a shade lighter than her skin tone. Not stopping here, Faryal suggested them to ‘take a rickshaw exactly back where she came from’ to get a reality check.

But is it okay to body-shame others when you were fat once?

As she mentioned, Faryal was ‘body-shamed’ and said that she has gone through the journey in the past, but losing weight does not give you the license to body-shame others either.

In the same television appearance, Ahsan Khan revisited a ‘joke’ she’d made about Hareem Farooq. when he asked,

“[You joked that] Hareem Farooq won’t fit in a car? When and why did you say this?”

To this, Faryal said that she wasn’t in the wrong because she had been fat herself. The incident was from Mazaaq Raat when Faryal was asked if she had a car with three seats and could only choose a few people to sit with her, who would she choose.

She explained:

“The rest were my friends, so I only took their names. The show host then asked whether I would have Hareem in the car with me and I said no and then cracked a small joke, saying that Hareem wouldn’t fit. Hareem really minded this joke of mine.”

Faryal Mehmood herself needs a reality check

The actor went on to explain that she didn’t mean any harm and it’s ‘not a big deal’ because she herself was fat in the past.

“This was a joke of course,” she said. “I used to be fat, why would I make fun of someone else for this? No need to take this so personally. Just lose some weight, it’s not that hard… Because I have been through the journey, I know what body shaming does. If former fat people make jokes about body shaming, it isn’t a big deal,”

Body-shaming others is not okay and justifying it by saying that you have been a victim of it too is not funny either. You cannot use your own history to judge and mock others and the ‘fat to fit’ mentality is wrong in every sense. Faryal thinks that losing weight is ‘not a big deal’ and ‘everyone can do it’, which is very ignorant on her part.

So many people deal with heart diseases and various other issues. They might have developed it over time but let’s not forget that congenital diseases also play a huge role in your physical health. The least we can do is be kind, give them a pat on the back, and wish them good health.
