First Pakistani Horror Film ‘Maya the Myth’ Releases on Amazon Prime

Pakistani horror film, Maya the Myth has released on one of the most popular OTT platforms. The film was released on Amazon Prime on February 16.

According to the filmmakers, the movie is based on real life events. Maya the Myth tells the story of a young Pakistani Hindu girl Padmani. She would hear mysterious voices in her room and one night, these creepy voices became one. It asks Padmani to make a sacrifice of her unborn son.

In the trailer, we hear a pandit saying,

“This Diwali will be auspicious for you. You will be blessed with whatever you wish for.”

 



 

The trailer of the movie shows a girl dressed in red, who is supposedly Padmani, the lead character of the movie. After Padmani sees her husband dead, the same pandit who predicted good fortune for her, says,

Kuch hai to bus tumhara karam, baqi sab maya hai [only your deeds will remain, all else is an illusion].”

The film is directed by Shaquille Arslan Ali and is produced by Faisal Junejo. It shows M. Ashraf, Hadiya Khan, Maa and Faisal Junejo in lead roles.

In December 2019, Federal Minister for Science & Technology Fawad Chaudh requested Netflix and Amazon Prime to invest in Pakistani content as well. The minister asserted that Pakistani dramas have recently made a huge comeback and that he can assure successful partnerships to the streaming platforms. He wrote,

“Pak drama have made a huge come back recently, as culture minister I strived to bring big content companies to invest in Pak Drama n film, even now I request #Netflix #Amazon n others to invest in Pak content we have immense talent n experience I assure successful partnerships.”
