Did you know these dramas were inspired by real events?

Pakistani dramas

Pakistan’s television industry has produced some of the greatest dramas of all time. If you make a list of dramas that were truly commendable then you’d be surprised to see how much our entertainment industry has improved.

But keeping that list concise, we have selected a few of the gems that are actually based on true stories and left a lasting impression on viewers.

Baaghi

This 2017 drama serial became the buzz on social media and still remains as one of the greatest dramas in the history of Pakistani media.

Based on the actual events from Qandeel Baloch’s life, Baaghi stirred up a lot of controversies. Saba Qamar was the protagonist and played the role of Qandeel Baloch. However, in the drama the name was changed to Qanwal Baloch so as to present the story in an indirect manner.

Sadqay Tumhare

If you ever get into a conversation about Pakistani dramas, asking people to name their favorite ones in recent history, chances are that Sadqay Tumhare will be their first pick.

Most of us are still living in 2014, sobbing over Shanno (played by Mahira Khan) and Khalil’s (played by Adnan Malik) fate. But do you know that your favorite drama is actually based on true events and that too from the life of its playwright Khalil ur Rehman Qamar?

This is evident from the fact that Khalil ur Rehman named his character after himself. He confirmed those suspicions later during an award show that the story was indeed his own. Khalil-ur-Rehman also revealed that his family asked him to take down the show from the small screen.

Meri Guriya

A few months after Zainab was raped and murdered in Pakistan, drama serial Meri Guriya was released.

This 2018 drama deals with sexual abuse towards children, which led many people to believe that it was based on Zainab’s case. However, ARY came up with a storyline that portrayed this sensitive issue in a very subtle way.

Lahaasil

This 2007 hit drama was based on the story of a call girl who later embraces Islam.

Lahaasil is an adaptation of the novel with the same name. Written by Umera Ahmed, the novel is dedicated to a woman named Najma, who came out and told her story.

Piyari Bitto

Drama serial Piyari Bitto was inspired by the story of a man who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. But the writer, Saji Gul elaborated that since our dramas are more women-centric, they created a female character who experienced the same situations as that of the actual person.
